BIZZ – MUSIC SAVES ONE MORE SOUL
He is Nigerian, a musician.
Bizz sings about love – the two sides of loves – and every other little thing our generation can relate to.
A magical night happened at Under G on a chilly night at a cozy spot called ‘’Purple and Vanilla’’; where blue-pink chandeliers are hung low on the ceilings to give the ambiance of a salient vibe. Such that it made black girls and dudes turn blue at nights; at least this is how everyone seemed on this night.
Magical? Maybe… or perhaps I was a bit high.
This vibe rests on two important reasons – loud music and liquor. This is why Purple is where my friends go Friday nights to lift our spirits after a draining week from school. It was on this magical ‘purple’ night I met Bizz for the first time. We were already friends on Instagram; that app that miraculously brings people together through algorithms and whatnots. I admired his page and he did mine, we praised each other’s creativity and we hoped we would meet someday in flesh and blood.
With this photo shoot, I wanted to emphasize the color of his skin alongside his musical skills. Because I would always remember the night I met him underneath the blue lights, his skin shone and his smile radiated as we shook hands and laughed off the fact that I did not recognize him the first few seconds I walked into Purple.
An hour later, two cups of yogurt and liquor later, I sat with Yemi to watch Bizz perform his hottest single SHIGH produced by Produca wa. I was marveled by his stage presence, ignoring the fact that ‘’Purple’’ was after all a tiny space. It did not stop him from connecting with his turnt audience; we all screamed and sang along to his catchy single. Just imagine him with a larger crowd!
Bizz is an artist with two EPs and hit singles. He believes in good music and a great vibe. He fucks with any musician who takes their music artistry seriously.
‘’I like the new wave of alternative musicians in Nigeria like Wavythecreator and Odunsi but Fela and 2FACE made me fall in love with music as a kid.’’
Before we met, he had shot the music video of SHIGH alongside some creative minds here at LAUTECH, he was already working on another single with a feature and he was doing all these with schooling. Intriguing…and he is just getting started.
‘’My system name is Ahmed Adebisi. I am an artiste, call me Bizz’’
You should call him Bizz because that is what the world will soon know him as. Bizz sings about love – the two sides of loves – and every other little thing our generation can relate to. He has been described as hardworking and I would not be surprised to see his hard work pay off big. The evolution of Nigeria’s music industry cannot be overemphasized, giving room for young artistes like Bizz with diverse musical contents.
Bizz grew up in Lagos; a city in Nigeria where most people still believe you have to wear your body and soul out before being recognized as a hard working person. Read this conversation I had with him at his recording studio.
BIZZ: You know there’s a difference between hard work and smart work, yeah?
BIZZ: Sure! Some oldies stick to the idea that hard work is all you need to break out of poverty. But things are changing these days. We need to recognize our strength and not labor on barren soil. Go for what you are good at and learn the ropes, you do not have to do manual labor the entire days of your young adult life if it won’t save your old age.
As young people, we should understand the difference between hard work and smart work. Do you want to remain in a comfort zone forever or do you want to take risks?
Bizz is passionate about his music; he pushes himself really hard as though his life depends on it. I think this is why his story is relatable and also the fact that a music career wasn’t his first choice growing up.
‘’I did love music as a kid but I never saw it beyond that. Two years ago it just clicked that this is what I want to do’’
This simple decision has guided him through for two years now and he is not stopping anytime soon. His music video is going to be released alongside his new single – LA VIDA LOCA FT MR. TOYE today…on this day his birthday.
He fondles with colour by changing his colour from time to time. He is quite reserved but when he laughs, he really laughs! He enjoys talking about things that excite him like choosing fried rice over jollof rice, (this has become an important question to ask anyone in my interviews though) but most especially talking about his music career like performing in tours and concerts in the future.
His music tells the modern tales of love but Bizz isn’t sure if love exists anymore because divorce and heartbreaks clouds many love stories these days that one doesn’t know what to believe anymore.
Right now, I can tell he is overwhelmed. Who wouldn’t be? He has got a lot going for him right now. His music video, his new single and the growing audience he is gathering online and offline. These are motivating him, pushing him to remain the best of the best.
But tonight, we are just going to enjoy a Friday night – a birthday night and a listening party at Purple of course. You should check his Instagram and follow his stories tonight. Finna be lit!
Oh! And if you show up at Purple tonight, say hi to my shy ass too!
