This post will teach you to start a podcast with your phone without the need to wait to own sophisticated equipment/studio. Keep reading to learn more.
What is a podcast?
Podcasts are a perfect way to create content, there are tons of writers who use the podcast to tell stories and teach. Are you interested? You must have come in contact with a podcast or two and you might have wondered how they are made. I wrote this post because one of my followers on Instagram requested it specifically. She wanted to start a podcast channel but she was hesitant because she does not have a recording studio.
I shared my own story of how I began my podcast channel by using my phone and she was motivated to start hers. So if you are looking for a sign to tell you to start a podcast, this is the sign. If you keep reading, I can teach you how to start a podcast using only your phone!
My podcast channel is on a break. I decided to take a break because I wanted to focus on blogging and email marketing. I might return to podcasting in the future. Right now I do not want to dabble into a lot of things. I want to be able to focus on a few things effectively.
So how can you create a podcast on your phone?
HOW TO CREATE A PODCAST ON YOUR PHONE

Contrary to popular opinion, you do not need a sophisticated studio to begin podcasting.
You can start small. Just like I record my IGTV videos using my iPhone, you can record a podcast using your phone. There is a voice recorder on your phone. Use it! Press record and just speak. Upload it directly to SoundCloud and guess what? You just recorded a podcast.
It is that simple!
Are you interested in taking it seriously? Use ANCHOR. I used Anchor as well. As a result, podcasting was easy for me.
Anchor is an app that lets you make your own Podcast.
It allows you
- record your sound within the app
- input music and sound effects
- input breaks like commercial breaks
You can record straight from the app, input the in-app music and sound effect, save and hit publish.
The best part is that it helps you upload each episode you make to Apple, Google, Spotify, and 5 other Podcast platforms. It provides links to each platform and shares them on social media.
What makes Anchor an amazing app is that it provides you with analytics of your listeners. You can see which of your episodes your listeners listened to.
This is convenience at your fingertips! My podcast journey was easier and I can assure you will find it easy as well.
All you have to do is download the app on your phone, sign up and start recording.
DIY props that boost your sound quality are wardrobe and carton boxes. I used them because I could not afford a studio session or a high-end microphone. So what I did was google DIY home studio techniques and equipment.
I used to place my cheap mic within an indomie carton, sit in front of my open wardrobe in my room back in University, hit record and. What will happen is that the sound waves won’t bounce around the walls of your entire room, only within your wardrobe. It reduces background noise. You would think my podcast was professionally produced. Nah, fam!
Why am I telling you this?
I am telling you all these because I want to encourage you to start something with what you have. All I had was my phone, sound editing software on my laptop, and a cheap mic. I know of a Nigerian podcast who record simply with her phone via Anchor and she has a decent audience. I know of an American podcast whose hosts started recording in their apartment, now they are produced by a major studio company and they have a show on Quibi.
It does not matter if you cannot afford expensive equipment, if your content is relevant you will gain your audience and impact their lives. All you just need to do is learn how to gain an online audience.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF ANCHOR? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT? ARE YOU PSYCHED TO BEGIN YOUR PODCAST CHANNEL WITH YOUR PHONE? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENT SECTION.
Thanks for reading.
