Hi guys, it’s Susanah again with another long-a$$ but important video for you international students and dependents moving to the United Kingdom this coming UK school session. This video is full of helpful tips and funny moments that are quite excellent for soundbites. So feel free to share on social media!
Read a brief summary of the items mentioned in the video:
Documents
Travel documents, your COVID immunisation card, your passport, your qualifications, and certificates etc. keep all your document in a safe plastic file and always have it in your carry-on.
Beddings and toiletries
Bring enough toiletries that will be okay for two-three months. They are affordable here in the UK. However, you can buy your bedsheets and towels from Nigeria. I see no reason why to buy new ones if you have them already.
Clothing
Less summer clothes, more winter-appropriate outfits. e.g. 2 jackets, long sleeve tops, sweaters and hoodies, jeans, and leggings for ladies for extra padding, socks, sneakers, head warmers.
Foodstuff
Items you can put into plastic Ziplock bag e.g. egusi, crayfish, iru (locust beans), spice, dry pepper, dried fish, seasonings. Do not pack raw food items such as raw fish, raw meat or palm oil. You might end up leaving it behind at the airport.
Hair and Skincare
Bring packs of attachments, hair products. Wigs and extensions are expensive here, and the cost of making your hair in the UK is quite expensive. Invest in good wigs from Nigeria to save the the burden of paying so much for your hair.
I would advice you to have snacks in your carryon; anything can happen. Stay energised with a snack or two. Also, carry a power bank.
However, for a comprehensive explanation and fun little anecdote about my misadventures at the Airport in Istanbul, watch the video!
